 Central Texas' Newest Trail

Central Texas' Newest Trail

The newly established 290 trailhead of the Violet Crown Trail can be accessed from Nichols Park Apartment Homes.

From Gaines Creek and the 290 trailhead, the trail shifts from the urban wild lands of the Barton Creek Greenbelt to the more residential Sunset Valley. This next section of trail connects the neighborhoods and villages of this area to parks, schools, retail centers, and open space. While the Violet Crown Trail will connect to some existing trail in this area, such as Arbor Trails around Brushy Creek Road, there are still large tracks of raw land here.

Once complete the 30-mile trail will provide a unique recreational experience as it passes through the urban wildlands of the Barton Creek Wilderness Park, the City of Sunset Valley, Circle C Ranch and eventually into Hays County. Along its route the trail will connect scenic natural areas to neighborhoods, shopping centers, a library, and public parks. Passing near the Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center, the Violet Crown Trail will head south, winding through the rolling countryside of the City of Austin’s Water Quality Protection Lands in a uniquely natural setting.
